I'On | Mount Pleasant Real Estate
Mount Pleasant Neighborhoods Series | I'On
I'On was named after Jacob Bond I'On, the first mayor of nearby Sullivan's Island. In the northwest part of the neighborhood there is a public one acre family cemetery with a monument to I'On that was erected in the 19th century.
I'On was designed on the principles of New Urbanism and Traditional Neighborhood Development: mixed-use, walkable neighborhoods with open space and access to recreational amenities. It was founded in 1995 and the first home was completed in 1999. The architecture of most homes is heavily influenced by downtown Charleston. The homes are on small lots and have wide front porches inviting neighborly interaction. The streets are wide, giving space for on-street parking, and there are sidewalks throughout the neighborhood. A large lake, nature trails, deep water access, an outdoor amphitheater, and the ability to join The I'On Club for year round swimming, tennis and fitness are just part of the many nearby amenities.
I'On square is home to the Inn at I'On, Grace Salon Spa, I'On Family Dentistry and great options for food! You must visit the Square Onion for their fabulous Pimento Cheese Spread, and really, anything they offer! Sit in the park area under the trees, inside or take home one of their fabulous casseroles. I'On Square wouldn't be complete without O'Brions Pub, it's a place to watch the game and snack on their Home Chips with Clemson Blue Cheese.
